LASIK doctors in the San Francisco Bay Area are anxious to get your business. To get your business, some surgeons may employ shady sales tactics. So, if you are looking around for a great LASIK doctor, here are some things to look out for:
"Bait and Switch"
This is the classic sales technique of someone giving you an incredibly low price and then switching the price when you get into the office because you may “not qualify” for the low price. As a patient, you are now trapped in a game by the LASIK facility. Unfortunately, this is the way most laser surgery patients get manipulated into something they may not want or can afford.
Be aware that this is a sales tactic to try and sign you up for more money. If this happens to you when you go to a LASIK eye surgery center, politely say “no thanks” and walk away. Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
"The Shell Game"
This technique is a variant of the “Bait and Switch” method. This form of the technique avoids the question altogether until you come in for an eye exam. If you call to get a quote, and have your prescription handy, the person on the other end of the line will tell you that they don’t know the prices or that “they are not trained to answer your question.” Instead, the LASIK practice offers to schedule an exam and then all of your questions will be answered. Again, this puts the consumer in a bad position.
If you experience this type of tactic when you call a local doctor, hang up and cross them off of your list. Any San Francisco LASIK center should be able to tell you precisely what your fee will be if you give them an idea of your prescription.
